Founded in 1957, MHAC’s mission is to ensure that people of all ages, sexual orientation, gender and ethnicity, who require mental health support and services, are able to live full and productive lives, receive the behavioral health support and services and other services that they need, and are not denied any other benefits, services, rights, or opportunities based on their need for mental health services.
The Communications and Engagement Manager is responsible for managing and executing organization communications, organization branding, talent communications, social media and community engagement. This role also oversees departmental communications, legal and media-related communications (including public relations) and coordinates large-scale events for employees and the community.
The Communications and Engagement Manager collaborates closely with Program Managers, Directors and CEO to develop and implement communication strategies. They manage relationships with vendors and partners and work with department leaders (Executives, Directors, and Managers) to bring projects and initiatives from concept to completion. This role supports the organization’s strategic goals by promoting an inclusive and equitable environment through impactful communication.
What You Get to Do:
- Demonstrate MHAC’s mission, purpose, values, and beliefs in everyday language and contact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage employee, program, and executive communications needs.
- Collaborate with MHAC programs to identify the public voice of all programs.
- Oversee all internal and external employee and departmental communication, including hands-on creative work such as:
- Writing/design, video/photography, digital/web
- Create weekly newsletters to highlight MHAC’s and other community-based organization’s efforts, as well as mental health news and events.
- Manage all social media accounts as well as create social media campaigns and other PR-related communications.
- Consult with management to develop effective communication procedures and policies.
- Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and venues.
- Draft press releases following organizational news.
- Communicate with media outlets and journalists.
- Meet with committees and executives as necessary to discuss and plan large-scale events.
- Maintain up to date information on our website regarding events and policy awareness.
- Develop monthly media activity reports.
- Identify media and press opportunities.
What We Expect From You:
Required
- Experience creating media/PR-related communication.
- Experience planning and executing employee engagement and large-scale events.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and social media platforms.
- Commitment to MHAC’s mission.
- Must be able and willing to travel to our partners across the State of California (our organization will cover the cost of travel for the purpose of work outside of our Sacramento office).
- This position may require occasional driving, and as such the employee must have a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance at the time of employment, and both must be maintained throughout employment.
Desired
- Experience in Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, English, and/or related field.
- Experience managing/coordinating large events (private and/or public).
